
The first and best advice to beginning astronomers is to find an astronomy club to join. There are surprisingly many. You will find friendly folks, lots of good advice, and get a chance to look through a variety of binoculars and telescopes to help you determine what's best for you. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even "dumb" ones. You can't learn unless you ask.
